The annual Boo Bash is one of the many seasonal activities that is held yearly thanks to the Shelby Township Parks, Recreation and Maintenance Department.  Community support plays a big role at the Boo Bash and other events, with many contributions from local businesses and organizations such as Genisys Credit Union, Henry Ford Macomb Hospital, Yates Cider Mill, Caribou Coffee and Target.  

The Shelby Township community resides in the Utica Community School District.  The Utica Community School District has a commitment to the community of Shelby Township that “Every Child Achieves,” and guarantees to strive each and every day to help each child reach his or her full potential.

With over 35 schools in the Utica Community School District and a strong concept of what the Shelby Township community wants, it is no surprise that so many Utica Community Schools have been honored with the prestigious Blue Ribbon award.  Some of these Blue Ribbon Award winning schools include Ebeling Elementary, Duncan Elementary, Morgan Elementary, Switzer Elementary, Stevenson High School, Eisenhower High School and Henry Ford II High School Utica Community Schools that have been honored with the prestigious Blue Ribbon award.

Utica Community School students regularly score above both state and county averages on all state wide exams. The Utica Community School District averages 80 percent proficiency in the MEAP testing and many of the individual school classrooms reach 100 percent proficiency in many of the testing areas. All Utica Community High School students score above the State of Michigan’s average in the ACT testing as well.  The Utica Community School District believes that their success is due to the strong relationship with students, staff and parents. 

Shelby Township is home to several notable figures including, John DiGiorgio, linebacker for the Buffalo Bills, Joe Cada, a professional poker player and Christopher Howe, a film and theater actor who currently plays on the USA Network series The Burn Notice.
